2027: I’ll never leave SDP unless it ceases to exist – Adebayo

Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the party, declaring that he will never join any other political platform except the SDP ceases to exist.

Adebayo, who contested the 2023 presidential election, revealed that he joined the SDP in 1991 at the age of 19 and has remained a steadfast member despite pressures to defect.

“The only political party I have ever joined in my life is the SDP, and that’s where I will remain unless the party ceases to exist,” he said.

Addressing speculations that the SDP is in alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo dismissed such claims as false. He stressed that his political activities are strictly within the SDP, although he admitted that some individuals in the party may hold personal sympathies elsewhere — a practice he said is not tolerated.

Adebayo noted that the SDP is currently being reenergized by a new generation of young politicians determined to restore its founding principles of fairness, equity, and justice. He added that the party’s manifesto remains anchored on good governance, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law.

On the state of the nation, Adebayo decried the persistence of corruption, poor governance, and economic mismanagement, which he said have hindered Nigeria’s progress. He accused successive governments of betraying public trust through unfulfilled promises and weak accountability.

He reaffirmed that the SDP would continue to champion issue-based politics and ethical leadership as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.
