Prince Louis, aged seven, has turned down an offer to take up what would have been his first official role as a working royal — serving as patron of the World Conker Championships.
The invitation was extended after event organisers learned of the young prince’s fondness for collecting and stashing conkers around Kensington Palace.
Although palace staff reportedly found the request amusing, Prince Louis’ parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, politely declined, noting that he is still too young to take on royal duties.
A palace spokesperson quipped: “We really appreciate the invite, but at the moment, Prince Louis is ‘conker-trating’ on his studies.”
St John Burkett, spokesperson for the World Conker Championships, told The Telegraph that the organisers were “excitedly awaiting a response” after reaching out to the royal family.
He explained: “Like many organisations supported by members of the Royal Family, we have charitable aims and have raised nearly £450,000 to support people living with sight loss. We were thrilled to learn that Prince Louis is a conker enthusiast and believe he would make a wonderful honorary patron.”
Burkett added that the invitation remains open, saying the young prince would be warmly welcomed at future events should his parents reconsider.
