Anambra declares Friday work-free day ahead of governorship election

The Anambra State Government has declared Friday, November 7, 2025, a work-free day for all civil servants.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, is intended to allow workers adequate time to prepare for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday, November 6, by the Head of Service, Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe.

According to Mrs. Igwegbe, Governor Chukwuma Soludo approved the work-free day to enable civil servants to travel to their respective polling areas and participate fully in the election. She stressed that the measure is aimed at encouraging greater civic engagement, describing voting as a crucial duty and an essential pillar of good governance and democracy.

The Head of Service further directed all political appointees, permanent secretaries, and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies to ensure that their staff are properly informed and that the directive is fully implemented.
