The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 6,879 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices have been configured and prepared for deployment ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday during the 2025 Anambra Governorship Election Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Memorial Centre in Awka.
He noted that out of the 13 activities scheduled for the election, the commission has successfully completed 11. He also reiterated that INEC has released the final list of the 16 candidates contesting the poll, stressing that no candidate whose name is not on the published list will be allowed to participate.
Prof. Amupitan further revealed that 3,456 persons with disabilities are expected to vote on Election Day. He added that 6,829 BVAS devices have already been deployed and configured, while the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV) is fully set to upload results in real time, ensuring quick and transparent announcement of the winner.
“As of this moment, 11 out of the 13 scheduled activities have been successfully implemented. The two remaining milestones are the end of campaigns by midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025, and Election Day on Saturday, November 8, 2025,” he stated.
He also gave updates on voter registration figures, confirming that INEC approved a final register of 2,802,790 voters on September 4, 2025. Of the 168,187 new registrations recorded across 326 wards, 27,817 were invalidated due to multiple entries, leaving 140,370 valid new voters. Additionally, 5,983 transfer requests were approved.
In his remarks, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun—represented by DIG Benjamin Okolo—assured that officers will conduct themselves professionally, warning that violence and voter inducement will not be tolerated. He urged political actors to focus on persuading voters rather than provoking them.
Also speaking, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Tenders Board, Dr. Ken Ukeagu, confirmed that all systems required for the election are ready. He announced that 114 domestic observers have been accredited, 76 media organisations registered, and about 24,000 ad hoc staff fully trained.
Resident Electoral Commissioner for Anambra State, Queen Elizabeth Agwu, added that the commission is fully prepared for Saturday’s governorship poll.
