Former NFL star Mark Sanchez fired by FOX following Indianapolis stabbing incident

Former NFL quarterback and FOX Sports analyst Mark Sanchez has been dismissed from the network, one month after a violent confrontation in Indianapolis left him critically injured, TMZ Sports reports.

A FOX Sports spokesperson confirmed the decision on Friday, November 7, stating: “We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network. There will be no further comment at this time.”

The incident occurred in early October while Sanchez was in Indianapolis to cover the Colts–Raiders game. Authorities say he allegedly confronted a 69-year-old delivery driver in an unusual altercation. The driver stabbed Sanchez in what police believe was an act of self-defense, inflicting a severe wound to his upper torso.

Sanchez was arrested in his hospital bed just hours later. Prosecutors later charged him with four offenses — one felony count of battery and three misdemeanors — which could lead to several years in prison if he is found guilty.

After being released from the hospital, Sanchez turned himself in at the Marion County Jail for formal booking before returning to California.

He also faces a civil lawsuit filed by the delivery driver, Perry Tole, in which FOX Sports has been named as a co-defendant.

Sanchez has not appeared on-air since the October 4 incident. Analysts Brady Quinn and Mark Schlereth temporarily filled his role. On Friday, FOX Sports also announced the addition of Drew Brees as an NFL analyst, though it's unclear if the move is related to Sanchez’s exit.

Sanchez is still recovering as his criminal and civil cases continue.
