The Oyo State High Court has authorized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to go ahead with its elective national convention slated for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, the state capital.
The court also instructed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be present and monitor the proceedings, according to Channels TV.
Delivering the ruling, Justice A. L. Akintola issued an interim order allowing the PDP to continue its convention preparations without interference.
The ruling followed an ex-parte motion filed by Folahan Adelabi against the PDP, its Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, Governor Umaru Fintiri—who chairs the National Convention Organising Committee—and INEC.
Adelabi sought to prevent any move by the defendants to alter or disrupt the timetable, guidelines, or schedule for the upcoming convention.
In his decision on Monday, Justice Akintola concluded that the claimant had established a strong enough case to justify urgent judicial intervention.
“The motion ex-parte has merit and succeeds as prayed,” the judge ruled, granting temporary orders that protect the party’s convention plans and directing all parties to allow the event to proceed.
The hearing for the substantive motion seeking an interlocutory injunction has been adjourned to November 10, 2025.
The interim order, dated November 3, 2025, was sealed by the Oyo State High Court and signed by the Principal Registrar, S. O. Hammed.
