"Reasons behind Akpabio’s removal of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from Senate committee chairmanship?"
Senate President Godswill Akpabio Announces New Chairman for Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has officially appointed Senator Aniekan Bassey as the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, replacing the suspended Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. This announcement was made during the plenary session on Thursday.
Bassey takes over the role amid uncertainty surrounding Akpoti-Uduaghan's leadership due to her suspension.
It’s worth noting that in a minor reshuffle earlier in February, Natasha was removed from her position as chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content and reassigned to the Diaspora and NGOs Committee. While no formal reason was given for her replacement, it is believed to be linked to her suspension.
Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court had previously ordered Natasha's reinstatement, requiring her to apologize to the Senate for her actions. However, the Senate has stated that it has not yet received a certified true copy of the court's judgment, and Natasha has not submitted the required apology.
