The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Dare Adeleke, has called on former Governor Ayodele Fayose to exit the party following what he described as Fayose’s persistent and disparaging remarks about the PDP.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Adeleke accused Fayose of openly admitting to bitterness and betrayal simply because he did not get his way within the party. His comments came in response to Fayose’s Friday interview on a national television program, where the ex-governor severely criticized the PDP leadership.
During the interview, Fayose lamented that his contributions to the PDP had gone unacknowledged and that the party was in disarray.
“The soul of the PDP is gone; the spirit is gone. Only the body remains,” Fayose declared. “The party has become a carcass. Key members have defected, and leadership is failing. In many states, the PDP has compromised itself and pushed out core leaders.”
He went further to predict that the PDP would place fourth in the next general elections. Despite his scathing assessment, Fayose insisted, “I remain a member of the PDP and will not leave.”
Adeleke, however, challenged Fayose’s continued membership, asking why he was clinging to a party he had consistently described as “dead” and “a carcass.”
“If the PDP is truly a carcass as Fayose claims, why won’t he leave? Well, the carcass has now spat him out. On Saturday, all PDP local government chairmen in Ekiti issued a statement disowning him and condemning his actions,” Adeleke said.
He likened Fayose to “a soldier who leaks secrets to the enemy and then complains about not getting promoted,” adding that if the PDP were a military institution, Fayose would have been court-martialed.
Adeleke also dismissed claims of Fayose's political relevance, stating that no local government or ward leader had followed him to other parties like the APC or ADC.
“If he was truly influential, the PDP structure in Ekiti would have moved with him,” he said.
Reaffirming the PDP’s strength in Ekiti, Adeleke expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the June 20, 2026, governorship election, especially once "the bad eggs" have exited the fold.
“I assure Fayose that the PDP—whom he now refers to as ‘they’—remains solid. We will mobilize true party loyalists, not ADC-bound jokers. Let it be clear: the PDP will win Ekiti, and I say that with conviction,” Adeleke concluded.
