Eko DisCo Announces 25-Day Planned Power Outage Across Lagos.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has announced a scheduled 25-day power outage that will affect several areas within its Lagos service network. The planned blackout will run from July 28 to August 21, 2025, with outages expected daily between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In a statement issued via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, EKEDC explained that the outage is necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to carry out essential maintenance on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line, a key infrastructure component of the national grid.

“The daily planned power outage is due to critical upgrade and maintenance works being undertaken by TCN,” the notice read. “This is aimed at improving grid reliability and strengthening power supply in the long term.”

Affected Areas & Expectations:
While EKEDC did not list all specific areas to be impacted, customers within its operational zones — which include parts of Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Apapa, Lekki, Ibeju, Festac, and environs — should prepare for intermittent supply, load shedding, and extended hours of outage during the daily maintenance window.

This extended outage underscores the growing infrastructure challenges within Nigeria’s power sector, where aging transmission lines and limited grid capacity frequently lead to disruptions. While the planned maintenance is intended to enhance long-term reliability, the immediate impact will inconvenience businesses and households already grappling with unstable power supply.

The development also highlights the need for stronger communication between DisCos, the TCN, and consumers — as well as long-overdue investment in both transmission and distribution infrastructure to minimize such extended downtimes in the future.

Customers are advised to plan accordingly and explore backup power options where possible during this maintenance window.
