Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan was actively involved in filming a Netflix documentary when he passed away earlier this week at the age of 71.
According to CNN, the previously unannounced project—created in collaboration with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)—is set to chronicle Hogan’s extraordinary journey, capturing both his rise to stardom in the wrestling world and his personal life beyond the ring. Sources close to the production confirmed that work on the documentary will continue despite his unexpected death.
The project had reportedly been in development since early 2024, with over 20 hours of exclusive sit-down interviews with Hogan already completed, along with 30 hours of additional footage. The film was being produced with Hogan’s full support and active participation.
“This documentary will reveal sides of him the public has never seen,” one insider told CNN.
Although an official release date has not been revealed, filmmakers are now reshaping parts of the documentary to reflect Hogan’s passing. Cameras are expected to be present at WWE SmackDown this Friday to record a tribute segment honoring his legacy.
Born Terry Bollea, Hogan was a cultural icon who helped revolutionize professional wrestling during the 1980s and 1990s. With his electrifying charisma, signature catchphrases, and unmatched presence, he became the face of the WWE and one of the most recognizable figures in global pop culture.
Hogan died Thursday in Clearwater, Florida, following cardiac arrest. Authorities have confirmed there were no signs of foul play, and a routine investigation is ongoing.
Over the course of his career, Hogan not only dominated in the ring but also helped open the door for wrestlers like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and John Cena to cross over into mainstream film and television.
The Netflix project is being directed by Bryan Storkel and produced by Connor Schell’s production company, Words + Pictures, in association with WWE. The first public report of the documentary’s existence came via Puck.
