NDLEA Arrests Two Suspected Drug Traffickers During Anti-Trafficking Walk in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended two suspected drug traffickers during a rally against trafficking held in Benin City.

According to DAILY POST, the arrests took place along Ihama Road while participants marched through major streets of Benin to mark the 2025 World Day Against Trafficking.

Edo NDLEA Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, confirmed the arrests to journalists, stating that the suspects were nabbed in the course of the awareness walk.

“In the course of the walk through Benin, we apprehended two drug traffickers who will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.

Ofoyeju also revealed that five other traffickers had been arrested the previous week and were already facing legal proceedings.

“This is a clear message to all those engaged in drug and human trafficking: you may run, but you can’t hide. The law will catch up with you,” he added.

He emphasised that each step taken during the march symbolised collective action against social vices in Nigeria and a commitment to creating a safer society.

The awareness walk was organised by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) under the theme, “Human Trafficking is Organised Crime – End the Exploitation.”

Ofoyeju further stressed the link between human and drug trafficking, describing them as dangerous and highly lucrative forms of organised crime fueled by greed and moral decay.
