Two members of the Edo State House of Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The legislators—Eugene Inegbeboh, representing Igueben Constituency, and Andrew Uzamere of Ovia II Constituency—announced their switch on Friday.
Their defection marks a major setback for the PDP in the ninth assembly, reducing its representation from 15 to just four seats. The APC now controls 20 of the 24-member House.
Receiving the new members at the APC state secretariat in Benin, State Chairman Jarrett Tenebe hailed the development as a reflection of growing political awareness in Edo. He stated that the move aligns with the APC’s commitment to transparency, unity, and inclusive governance.
Tenebe emphasized that the APC does not distinguish between old and new members. “We are one family,” he said. “The respect and responsibilities given to long-time members equally apply to you.”
He further noted, “Your entry into our party strengthens our mission. You bring leadership experience that will enhance our grassroots connection and overall vision.”
Encouraging party members to see the event as a moment of reflection, Tenebe added, “APC’s real strength lies not just in numbers but in unity, discipline, and our collective desire for a better Edo State.”
He called on citizens to continue supporting Governor Monday Okpebholo and his administration’s people-focused agenda.
In response, the defecting lawmakers expressed gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to contribute meaningfully to the growth and progress of the party.
