By-election: INEC officials, politician arrested with large cash in Ogun

Security operatives in Ogun State have arrested two individuals suspected to be officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) alongside a politician found with a huge amount of cash ahead of the state by-election.

The arrests were made on Saturday at a hotel in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, where the suspects were allegedly plotting to influence voters.

A viral video from the scene showed a male and female INEC staff sitting on the floor while being interrogated by security agents. Some suspected members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were also reportedly present during the arrest.

According to the officer questioning them, intelligence reports indicated that the electoral officials had earlier been compromised and given large sums of money by party operatives to facilitate vote buying in the by-election.
