Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, the 21-year-old heir to the Dutch throne, has become the victim of a disturbing “deepfake” pornographic attack, according to Norwegian outlet Seher og Hør.
The AI-generated videos superimposed the princess’s likeness onto the bodies of adult performers. Dutch authorities, working with the FBI, have since moved to shut down websites distributing the manipulated content, including MrDeepFakes—a notorious platform previously linked to similar material involving around 70 Dutch women. The site was taken offline worldwide in May following a major investigation.
Officials in the Netherlands are also pressing Canada to extradite David Do, identified as one of the suspected creators of the website. Princess Amalia, who is receiving support from King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, has been repeatedly targeted in such attacks, with similar incidents reported in 2022.
The case comes amid a broader crackdown on AI-generated explicit material. Under Dutch law, producing pornographic deepfakes is a criminal offence punishable by up to one year in prison, with harsher penalties possible for repeat offenders. Authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made so far.
The crown princess has taken a personal interest in the issue, dedicating her bachelor’s thesis at the University of Amsterdam to the study of deepfake abuse and its legal implications. She is now preparing to pursue further studies in Dutch law.
Amalia has previously lived under heightened security due to kidnap threats linked to organised crime, forcing her to temporarily withdraw from university life. Officials say her protection remains a priority as investigations into the deepfake case continue.
