EFCC Raid: Obasanjo Presidential Library Demands Apology, Threatens Legal Action

The management of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has issued a strong warning to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), threatening legal action over the agency’s early Sunday morning raid on its premises.

Recall that the operatives from the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 stormed the facility around 2 a.m., arresting 93 youths, and confiscating 18 vehicles and mobile devices during a Wet & Rave Splash Extravaganza party at the OOPL Rounda fun spot. Viral footage from the scene showed attendees fleeing in panic during the operation.

The EFCC claimed via its official X account that the raid was based on credible intelligence linking the attendees to suspected internet fraud.

However, OOPL Ventures Managing Director, Vitalis Ortese, in a statement to newsmen, condemned the action, describing it as an invasion of private property, a breach of corporate rights, and a blatant violation of the rights of those present. He alleged that over 50 armed operatives, led by a man identified as Olapade, fired shots and threatened to kill people, sparking chaos that left several attendees injured.

Ortese stated that the EFCC neither presented a warrant nor informed the police officers stationed at the OOPL gates or those sent from Kemta Police Station to provide security for the event. “When confronted, the operatives simply said, ‘We are doing our job,’” he said.

The management is demanding a formal explanation and public apology from the EFCC, warning that failure to comply would leave them with no choice but to seek redress through legal channels.

“In the meantime, management demands an explanation for these impudent actions and an apology from the EFCC for infringing on our rights, the rights of those who gathered, and for the injuries sustained during the chaos. Failure to do so will compel us to seek appropriate sanctions,” the statement concluded.
