Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, and his wife Wendy Schmidt have acquired one of Los Angeles' most iconic estates, Spelling Manor, in a major real estate transaction valued at $110 million.
The 56,500-square-foot mansion, originally built in the 1990s for famed TV producer Aaron Spelling and his wife Candy Spelling, boasts 14 bedrooms and 27 bathrooms. It also includes opulent amenities such as a beauty salon, massage rooms, tanning beds, a bowling alley, and a wine cellar.
The sale, reported by The Wall Street Journal on August 1, ranks among the highest-priced residential deals in L.A. this year. The Schmidts' purchase price is slightly less than the $120 million paid for the property in 2019 by the previous owner, Petra Ecclestone — daughter of Formula One billionaire Bernie Ecclestone. Petra had acquired the home from Candy Spelling in 2011 for $85 million and invested in significant renovations.
The Schmidts reportedly plan to use the estate to host nonprofit gatherings and business meetings. The couple already owns an impressive portfolio of properties across several high-profile locations, including Montecito, London, New York City, Miami Beach, San Francisco, Nantucket Island, and Washington, D.C.
