The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians to avoid multiple registrations during the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, stressing that offenders risk being completely removed from the voters’ register.
Plateau State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Mohammed Sadiq, issued the warning during a stakeholders’ meeting on the nationwide resumption of the CVR. He reiterated that voter registration is both a constitutional right and a civic responsibility, reserved for eligible citizens who wish to participate in elections.
Sadiq urged Nigerians aged 18 and above who have not yet registered to take advantage of the exercise and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He cautioned that multiple registrations will not be tolerated. “Anyone found engaging in such an act may be entirely delisted from the register,” he warned.
The REC announced that the CVR will begin on August 18, featuring an online registration platform accessible via http://www.crv.inecnigeria.org. The process will cover new registrations, PVC transfers, collection, and replacement of lost or damaged cards.
He also assured that measures are in place to prevent non-Nigerians from registering, and called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, political parties, and other stakeholders to sensitize eligible residents on the importance of participating in the exercise.
