Machine Gun Kelly Says He Lost Movie Role for Refusing to Say the N-Word

American rapper and actor Machine Gun Kelly has claimed he lost a film role after refusing to say the N-word during an audition.

Speaking on Thursday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, the artist—whose real name is Colson Baker—revealed he was close to landing a part in Ryan Coogler’s film Sinners, but the role ultimately went to another actor due to his refusal.

“There’ve been a lot of movies where I was like, ‘I was supposed to be in that,’ or, ‘I auditioned for that.’ Like Sinners—I was supposed to be in that,” MGK shared. “But in the audition, the character had to say the N-word, and I wouldn’t do it.”

He had been in the running for the role of Bert, a character who, along with his wife (played by Lola Kirke), becomes a vampire after unknowingly inviting a dangerous vampire named Remmick (played by Jack O’Connell) into their home. The role eventually went to Peter Dreimanis.

Recalling the scene, MGK said, “The audition was for the second vampire—the one who’s already in the house when the other vampire shows up and kills the family.”

Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio behind Sinners, has not yet commented on MGK’s claims.

Despite the setback, the 35-year-old remains hopeful about his future in film. “Hey, dude, I’d like to be in cinema while I still look young,” he said directly to the camera during the interview. “I’d really like to be cast in something while I’ve still got the looks.”

Though his ambitions in acting haven’t yet materialized as he hoped, MGK remains optimistic: “I’m on universal timing, though, so we’ll see.”

Machine Gun Kelly has previously appeared in several films, including Bird Box, The Dirt, Project Power, and Midnight in the Switchgrass, the latter of which he starred in alongside ex-girlfriend Megan Fox.
