Politicians Who Promise to Serve Only One Term Need Psychiatric Evaluation – Governor Soludo

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has stated that any politician who declares an intention to serve only a single term in office should undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Speaking at an endorsement rally in Anambra South for his second-term bid, Soludo dismissed the idea of voluntary one-term service as unrealistic and irrational. He challenged proponents of the notion to cite any precedent where it had genuinely occurred.

“The Nigerian Constitution permits two terms in office. So how can someone in their right mind come out and say, ‘I’ll only serve one term’? Do they think people are fools? Anyone making such a promise needs to be checked into a psychiatric facility—they’re clearly not thinking straight,” Soludo said.

His remarks come shortly after Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, expressed willingness to honor any coalition agreement that would see him serve just one term, adding that personal integrity and national interest outweigh personal ambition.
