The Ministry of Police Affairs and the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, have rejected a recent disclaimer issued by the Police Service Commission (PSC), describing it as misleading and inaccurate.
On July 31, 2025, the PSC, through its Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, disowned an advertisement published by the Police Academy calling for applications to the 12th Regular Course Degree Programmes of the Nigeria Police Force.
The PSC argued that the advert, which set the application period from July 28 to September 8, 2025, violated official procedures and undermined its constitutional mandate. According to the PSC, it holds the sole authority to appoint personnel into the Nigeria Police Force, a position supported by rulings from both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
In response, the Director of Information and Public Relations for the Ministry of Police Affairs, Bolaji Kazeem, issued a statement on behalf of the Police Academy clarifying that applications for the degree programmes remain valid and ongoing.
The ministry emphasized that the admission process complies fully with guidelines from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs. It further stated that the PSC has no constitutional role in university admissions.
“The attention of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, and the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs has been drawn to a misleading and inaccurate disclaimer issued by the Police Service Commission on 31st July 2025,” the statement read, describing the PSC’s disclaimer as “legally baseless and misleading.”
The ministry urged prospective applicants and the public to disregard the PSC disclaimer and confirmed that the online application portal remains open as originally announced.
