Okpebholo Approves Construction of 500-Bed Hostel for Edo Varsity

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the construction of a 500-bed hostel for the medical school of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, during Okpebholo’s campaign tour of Iruekpen and Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Area. The tour was part of activities ahead of the August 16 Edo Central Senatorial by-election.

According to the Governor, construction work on the hostel will begin in the coming weeks.

“Edo State Government will build a 500-space hostel accommodation for the medical school in AAU, Ekpoma. In the coming weeks, we will mobilize work to start,” Okpebholo said.

The Governor recalled that one of his first actions upon assuming office was to increase the university’s subvention to ₦500 million, a promise he said had already been fulfilled. He also noted the constitution of a new governing council for the institution as part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening the school.

Okpebholo reaffirmed his dedication to delivering on all campaign promises, urging party members to work towards securing 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The campaign event was attended by several All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, including the State Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh; Edo Central Senatorial Leader, Gen. Cecil Isekhaigbe (rtd); Secretary to the State Government; and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Gani Audu.
