World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has pulled out of this year’s Diamond League final in Zurich.
Amusan, who qualified as the second-ranked athlete in the discipline with 27 points, will now be replaced by Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas.
The final lineup includes Charlton, reigning world champion Danielle Williams, her Jamaican teammate Ackera Nugent, Dutch hurdler Nadine Visser, Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji and Selina von Jackowski, along with American trio Tonea Marshall, Grace Stark, and Kendra Harrison.
Amusan still holds the meet record of 12.29s, set in September 2022 when she claimed her second Diamond League crown. The 28-year-old had previously won three straight titles in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Her withdrawal is seen as a move to regain full fitness ahead of next month’s World Championships in Tokyo, following her stumble over the first hurdle in her most recent race at the Lausanne Diamond League, where she placed fifth in 12.82s.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Ezekiel Nathaniel, Africa’s 400m hurdles record holder, will compete in Zurich after clinching his first professional win last week in Lausanne with a time of 48.08s.
Another Nigerian, Udodi Onwuzurike, who made his Diamond League debut last week, has also secured a spot in the men’s 200m final.
