BREAKING : Tinubu Suspends Rivers State Emergency, Orders Fubara to Resume Thursday

 


President Bola Tinubu has lifted the emergency rule in Rivers State, six months after it was first declared.

In a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, Tinubu directed suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resume his duties on Thursday, September 18. The President also instructed Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to return to work.

While announcing the end of the state of emergency in the oil-rich state, Tinubu said:

"It gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today. The Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, including the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, will resume their offices from 18 September 2025.
