Diddy begins prison term at FCI Fort Dix

Sean “Diddy” Combs has officially started serving his federal sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, where he is expected to remain for the next two and a half years.

Law enforcement sources confirm that the music executive was moved to the low-security facility early Thursday and began the intake process shortly after arriving. His transfer follows Judge Arun Subramanian’s decision sentencing him to 50 months in federal prison, with the Bureau of Prisons approving his request to be held at Fort Dix.

According to his legal team, the facility was selected because it offers better access to drug-treatment programs, more opportunities for family visits, and a greater focus on rehabilitation.

Diddy had previously been detained at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) since September 2024 after being denied bail. MDC is known for overcrowding and violence, conditions far harsher than those at Fort Dix.

Despite the lower security level, Diddy’s attorney Mark Geragos cautioned that his client still faces significant risks. Speaking on the “2 Angry Men” podcast, Geragos said Diddy remains a target for potential sexual or violent attacks. During sentencing, his team also revealed that another inmate once plotted to stab him and that he had awakened one night to a blade held to his neck while in custody.

Diddy is now adjusting to his new surroundings. The Bureau of Prisons lists his projected release date as May 8, 2028, though that could change depending on his behavior, participation in rehabilitation programs, and other factors.
