INEC records over eight million online voter registration

More than eight million Nigerians have completed their online registration in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, according to new data released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Data released by INEC showed that a total of 8,003,196 registrations were recorded as of the ninth week of the exercise, covering October 13–19, 2025

Women slightly outnumber men among the registrants, with 4,190,890 female voters (52.37%) compared to 3,812,306 males (47.63%).

Young Nigerians aged 18 to 34 make up the largest share of registrants, accounting for 5,533,514 entries (69.14%). Middle-aged voters between 35–49 years contributed 1,678,212 (20.97%), while those aged 50–69 years made up 704,866 (8.81%).

Students formed the largest occupational group, representing 25.23% (2,018,967) of the total. They were followed by business professionals at 20.74% (1,659,690). Persons with disabilities (PWDs) accounted for 182,718 registrations, representing 2.29% of all entries.

At the state level, Imo State recorded the highest number of online pre-registrations with 826,850 entries (10.32%), followed by Lagos State with 604,619 (7.56%) and Ogun State with 510,062 (6.37%). Yobe State ranked lowest with just 2,714 registrations (0.03%).

INEC noted that the registration exercise remains suspended in Anambra State under Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022, pending the conclusion of the state’s November 8 governorship election.

So far, 1,710,450 Nigerians have completed both the online pre-registration and physical biometric capture, with 956,566 completing registration online and 753,884 finalizing the process at designated physical centers.

Youth participation continues to dominate completed registrations, with 1,261,288 individuals aged 18–34 making up 73.74% of the total. Women once again lead, accounting for 945,305 (55.27%), while men represent 765,145 (44.73%). PWDs made up 24,207 (1.41%) of completed registrations.

In terms of occupation, students again top the list with 566,391 completed registrations (33.11%), followed by businesspersons (316,295 or 18.49%) and housewives (259,932 or 15.28%).

Among states, Osun recorded the highest number of completed registrations (151,593), followed by the Federal Capital Territory (106,855), Kano (96,280), Imo (90,469), Lagos (85,831), and Rivers (28,507).

INEC emphasized that all figures remain provisional pending final validation through the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), which will identify and eliminate multiple or invalid registrations to ensure data integrity.
