Tinubu Appoints Nentawe Yilwatda as New APC National Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has reportedly appointed Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the current Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This appointment ends widespread speculation over who would succeed the former national chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down due to health-related issues.

Speaking with Daily Sun, a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) revealed that Yilwatda’s selection reflects a deliberate move by party leaders to hand over leadership to a true democrat, rather than the career politicians who have traditionally led the party.

His appointment comes just before today’s APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and follows a stakeholders' meeting held Wednesday night at the Presidential Villa in Aso Rock, attended by President Tinubu, members of the APC Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), and other key figures.

The NWC source also highlighted that Yilwatda’s emergence, as a Christian, is part of a broader effort to address the religious imbalance in the party’s leadership—calling the move a strategic step toward inclusivity.

Yilwatda, who became Minister of Humanitarian Affairs in 2024, was also the APC governorship candidate in Plateau State during the 2023 general elections.
