The Executive Director of Business Development at Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Yemi Ajao, on Wednesday, highlighted the extensive rebranding efforts the iconic Cocoa House has undergone over its 60-year history.
Speaking in a sideline interview with journalists after a symbolic balloon release to mark the building’s 60th anniversary in Ibadan, Oyo State, Ajao praised the foresight of the former Western Region government, noting that Cocoa House has earned the region global recognition.
“Cocoa House, Africa’s first skyscraper with 25 floors, was inaugurated in 1965,” Ajao said. “Remarkably, the structure was completed within seven years and has had no record of architectural defects since its commissioning.”
He added that the current management of the Odu’a conglomerate is implementing several improvements to enhance the building’s architectural appeal. “Every floor has undergone a rebranding process, and we are working to add a fifth elevator to complement the existing four. Other infrastructure upgrades are also in the pipeline to further modernize the facility,” he noted.
