Driver nabbed in Libya for smuggling Nigerian woman

Authorities in the coastal town of Brega, Libya, have arrested a driver for allegedly attempting to smuggle an undocumented Nigerian woman.

According to Migrant Rescue Watch, the arrest was made by Brega police during a routine patrol on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

The driver reportedly claimed the woman was his mother, but the identification card presented did not match her.

Further investigations revealed he had been paid 1,000 LYD (about $185) to transport her from Benghazi to Fezzan.

The Bishr Police Department has handed the case over to the public prosecution.
