Police in London have seized more than 70 luxury supercars worth a combined £7 million in a major weekend operation targeting uninsured and nuisance drivers.

Led by the Metropolitan Police in partnership with the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), the operation saw 72 high-end vehicles — including two purple Lamborghinis, several Ferraris, and Porsches — impounded across hotspots such as Hyde Park, Kensington, and Chelsea.

The crackdown follows growing complaints of anti-social and dangerous driving in these areas. According to the MIB, one of the purple Lamborghini drivers had been in the UK for just two hours and had driven for only 15 minutes before the car was seized.

Around 75 Met officers were involved, using tools such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), predictive movement tracking, and vehicle markers to identify uninsured cars.

Special Chief Officer James Deller said the operation demonstrated the force’s commitment to tackling disruptive behaviour on London’s roads.

MIB’s Head of Uninsured Driving Prevention, Martin Saunders, advised drivers to ensure their insurance is valid and up to date, warning that while some offenders knowingly broke the law, others lost coverage due to lapses like failed payments or incorrect details.
