Jose Mourinho dismissed by Fenerbahce after Champions League exit

Jose Mourinho has been relieved of his duties as head coach of Turkish giants Fenerbahce, just two days after their elimination from the Champions League playoffs at the hands of Benfica.

“Jose Mourinho, our Professional Football First Team’s technical director since the start of the 2024–25 season, has parted ways with us,” the club confirmed in a statement. “We thank him for his contributions and wish him success in his future career.”

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid boss had signed a two-year deal in June 2024, with the club hoping he could end their 10-year wait for the Super Lig title. However, despite guiding Fenerbahce to 26 wins and six draws in 36 league games, they finished second for the fourth consecutive season, with Galatasaray once again clinching the championship.

That runner-up finish secured Fenerbahce a place in the Champions League third qualifying round, where they overcame Dutch side Feyenoord 6–4 on aggregate. But their campaign ended in disappointment as Benfica defeated them in the playoff round.

Mourinho’s record in Istanbul stood at 37 wins, 14 draws, and 11 defeats from 62 matches, giving him a 59.7% win rate.

His departure comes less than a day after another ex-Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was also sacked—Besiktas dismissing him following their Europa Conference League loss to Lausanne-Sport.
