Nigeria’s Super Eagles soared to an emphatic victory over Benin Republic in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, with star striker Victor Osimhen stealing the spotlight after netting a brilliant hat-trick to seal a 4–0 win on Tuesday evening in Uyo.
The Napoli forward was in unstoppable form, leading from the front and inspiring the Super Eagles to their first major win in the qualifiers.
Osimhen opened the scoring early in the 3rd minute, showing his trademark pace and precision to slot past the Beninese goalkeeper after a fine through ball from Alex Iwobi. He doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 28th minute, rising high to head home a cross from Samuel Chukwueze.
The forward completed his hat-trick shortly after the break, converting a rebound from close range in the 51st minute, sending the home crowd into wild celebration.
With the victory, Nigeria now move up the Group C standings, strengthening their hopes of securing a place in the 2026 World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
Speaking after the match, an elated Osimhen dedicated his performance to the fans, saying, “I’m happy to help my country with these goals. We worked hard as a team, and this win is for every Nigerian who believes in us.”
Head coach praised his team’s spirit, noting that the result was a reflection of their renewed determination and focus.
“We played with hunger and discipline. Osimhen showed why he’s one of the best in the world right now,” the coach said.
The Super Eagles will next face Rwanda in their upcoming qualifier as they aim to maintain their momentum and stay on course for World Cup qualification.
