NAFDAC Alerts Public to Circulation of Fake Cowbell “Our Milk” Sachets

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about counterfeit versions of Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachets currently in circulation.

In a statement issued on August 22, the agency noted that Promasidor, the authorised manufacturer of Cowbell products, discontinued production of Cowbell “Our Milk” in September 2023 and replaced it with Cowbell Our Creamy Goodness.

According to NAFDAC, the fake products mimic the old “Our Milk” packaging and unlawfully display the Cowbell brand name, NAFDAC registration number, and original design, but are neither produced nor distributed by Promasidor.

The agency cautioned that consuming counterfeit milk poses serious health risks, including exposure to harmful chemicals, toxic additives, or diluted ingredients. Possible consequences include foodborne illnesses, allergic reactions, organ damage, and in extreme cases, death. Infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly are particularly at risk.

Details of the counterfeit product:

Product name: Cowbell “Our Milk” 12g sachet

Claimed manufacturer: Promasidor Nigeria Ltd

Production date: 04/2025

Expiry date: 12/2028

NAFDAC urged healthcare professionals and consumers to report suspected cases of substandard or fake food products to the nearest NAFDAC office, call the toll-free number 0800-162-3322, or email sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
