Naira Marley Speaks on MohBad’s Death, Denies Involvement

Singer Naira Marley has broken his silence on the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad, describing the late artiste’s demise as “premeditated” while distancing himself from any involvement.

In a video shared online, Marley said the last time he saw MohBad was on October 4, 2022, following a dispute between the singer and his then-manager. He recalled that despite MohBad’s troubles — including a clash with the NDLEA, an attempted suicide, a legal battle with his distributor, and eventual exit from Marlian Music — the late singer was still contemplating making peace before his passing.

Marley explained that on September 12, 2023, the day MohBad died, he was outside Nigeria — first in Amsterdam and later in Montenegro with Zinoleesky for a planned video shoot. According to him, passport stamps, videos, and witnesses could verify his claim.

Reacting to viral clips — including footage of Sam Larry confronting MohBad on a video set — Marley said he first saw the video online like everyone else and insisted it was not recorded on the day MohBad died. He added that Zlatan, who was present, had confirmed privately that nothing violent happened at that shoot.

The Marlian boss alleged that certain blogs were paid to recycle old clips to implicate him, stressing that the smear campaign denied him the chance to mourn properly. He pointed to MohBad’s leaked voice notes and testimony from the singer’s partner about his struggles with depression and paranoia after the NDLEA raid, saying MohBad had been “a shadow of himself” long before his death.

Marley strongly denied claims of bullying or sending people to harass MohBad. He also dismissed a viral Snapchat video of him dancing after the tragedy, insisting it was an old clip used to frame him.
