Nigerien Man Rescued Alive After Three-Storey Building Collapses in Abuja

A 27-year-old Nigerien national, Aliyu Salisu, was rescued alive after being trapped for nearly ten hours beneath the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in the Life Camp area of Abuja on Saturday, August 2.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.

Following his rescue, Salisu was taken to Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu, where he is currently receiving medical care and responding positively to treatment.

According to the police, the Command received a distress call around 6:15 p.m. on Saturday alerting them to the collapse. The Divisional Police Officer of Life Camp promptly mobilised a rescue team, secured the area, and launched a coordinated search and rescue operation.

The effort included personnel from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Development Control Department of the FCT Administration (FCTA), and workers from Zeberced and Julius Berger construction firms, alongside multi-agency patrol and enforcement teams.

After an intense and carefully coordinated effort, Salisu was successfully pulled from the debris around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 3.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, was present throughout the operation and commended all the agencies involved for their swift and professional response.

The Command also urged residents to stay vigilant and to promptly report emergencies or suspicious activity.
