Trump warns he’ll “walk” if Alaska peace talks with Putin collapse

US President Donald Trump has vowed to abandon his upcoming peace summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska if negotiations over the war in Ukraine fail to make progress.

Speaking aboard Air Force One in an interview with Fox News host Bret Baier, Trump said:

“We’re going for a meeting with President Putin in Alaska. I think it’s going to work out very well, and if it doesn’t, I’m going to head back home real fast.”

Pressed on whether he was serious, he doubled down:

“I would walk, yeah.”

The two leaders are scheduled to meet at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage — once a Cold War surveillance hub — for a working breakfast followed by a joint press conference.

Trump has warned Moscow of “very severe” sanctions if Putin refuses to engage meaningfully in the peace process, adding that the US would suspend all business ties with Russia until the conflict — now entering its fourth year — ends.

Vice President JD Vance voiced support for Trump’s stance, writing on X: “Grateful for President Trump’s leadership today as he travels to Alaska to meet with President Putin of Russia. Praying for peace in the days ahead.”

The high-stakes summit comes under intense global scrutiny, as both leaders face mounting pressure to end a war that has left Ukraine deeply fractured and Russia increasingly isolated on the world stage.
