Nigeria to Face Gabon in 2026 World Cup Play-Offs

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face Gabon in the semi-finals of the African section of the 2026 FIFA World Cup play-offs, following the conclusion of the qualifying group stage.

Nigeria booked their place in the play-offs after an emphatic 4–0 victory over Benin Republic on Tuesday, October 14. Meanwhile, Gabon clinched second place in Group F with a 2–0 win against Burundi.

In other results, DR Congo sealed qualification with a narrow 1–0 win over Sudan to finish runners-up in Group B behind Senegal, while Cameroon advanced after finishing second in Group D behind Cape Verde.

DR Congo will now face Cameroon in the other semi-final fixture.

The play-offs, featuring the four best runners-up from Africa’s nine qualifying groups, will take place in Morocco from November 13 to 16. Both semi-final clashes are scheduled for November 13, with the winners meeting in a single-leg final three days later.

The overall winner will progress to the inter-confederation play-offs in March 2026, vying for a spot at the expanded 48-team FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

All matches will be played as single-leg knockouts. In the event of a draw after 90 minutes, extra time and, if necessary, penalties will determine the winner.

Morocco will host the mini-tournament, offering African teams another chance to secure a coveted place at the 2026 World Cup finals.
