Prince Andrew is said to be facing a potential private prosecution linked to allegations of s£xual ass@ult, corruption, and misconduct in public office connected to the Virginia Giuffre case.
Campaign group Republic has announced that it has instructed a law firm to review the evidence and, if warranted, initiate legal proceedings against the embattled royal.
The Metropolitan Police previously examined claims that Andrew allegedly passed Virginia Giuffre’s personal details — including her date of birth and social security number — to a publicly funded bodyguard in 2011, instructing him to find damaging information about her.
The Duke has repeatedly denied accusations that Ms. Giuffre was coerced into having s£x with him on three occasions after being trafficked by U.S. financier and convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein when she was 17.
Amid mounting public backlash, Andrew relinquished his Duke of York title and other royal privileges prior to the release of Giuffre’s memoirs.
Ms. Giuffre’s relatives, Sky and Amanda Roberts, have urged the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to review Scotland Yard’s decision to drop further investigation into the allegations against King Charles’s brother.
According to Republic, there is a “compelling moral and legal case for justice to be served for victims of s£xual abuse and for those who abuse positions of power to face accountability.”
Republic’s chief executive, Graham Smith, stated:
“If not us, then who? It’s a damning reflection on the UK’s justice system, police, and political establishment — including the monarchy — that a private prosecution is even necessary. Everyone should be equal before the law.”
He added that there is sufficient evidence to warrant a thorough investigation and criticized authorities for appearing unwilling to pursue the matter further.
In 2022, Andrew reportedly paid up to £12 million to settle Ms. Giuffre’s civil case, while continuing to insist he never met her.
The prince has also recently faced criticism over his “peppercorn rent” arrangement at Royal Lodge, the 30-room mansion he has occupied for over 20 years. Reports indicate that he and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, have now agreed to vacate the property in exchange for two smaller residences.
The BBC also disclosed that Andrew once hosted Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Harvey Weinstein at Royal Lodge before the scandals erupted.
