Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to part ways with Antonio Rudiger at the end of the 2025–26 season.
The 32-year-old German defender joined the club from Chelsea on a free transfer in 2022 and has enjoyed three successful seasons at the Bernabéu, featuring in 157 matches and helping the team secure eight trophies.
Despite his strong performances, Rudiger has recently fallen out of favour under manager Xabi Alonso. According to German outlet BILD, his contract, which expires at the end of the season, will not be renewed.
The report claims Alonso has concerns over Rudiger’s consistency and fitness, with the player suffering from several minor injuries in recent seasons. Currently sidelined with a thigh injury sustained in early September, Rudiger is not expected to return until November.
In his absence, Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen have cemented their places as Real Madrid’s preferred central defensive duo.
Rudiger is also among the club’s highest earners, reportedly taking home over €10 million per season. Given his reduced role, the club views his salary as unsustainable for a backup player.
Reports of his potential exit follow an alleged training ground altercation earlier this year between Rudiger and teammate Jude Bellingham.
According to Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, tempers flared during a practice match after Rudiger’s rough tackle on Bellingham. The England international reportedly responded with a sharp remark, prompting teammates to step in and separate the pair.
