South African Rapper Shebeshxt Under Investigation for Alleged Road Rage Shooting

South African rapper Shebeshxt, born Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, is under investigation for attempted murder after allegedly shooting another motorist during a road rage altercation in Polokwane on Tuesday, October 19, 2025. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed debates over celebrity accountability in the country.

Reports indicate that the confrontation began when Shebeshxt and another driver clashed over reckless driving on a busy street. The argument quickly escalated as both men exchanged insults from their cars. The situation turned violent when Shebeshxt allegedly pulled into a nearby petrol station, where the other motorist followed. Witnesses claim it was there that the rapper fired a shot, injuring the victim.

According to sources close to the investigation, the victim was shot in the upper abdomen and rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in intensive care. The Westenburg Police Station confirmed that a case of attempted murder has been opened.

Controversy erupted after Shebeshxt was briefly detained and released shortly afterward. Insiders revealed that the Murder and Robbery Unit has since taken over the case and plans to record statements from both the artist and the victim once initial inquiries are completed. The swift release has angered the victim’s family, who accused authorities of mishandling the case and demanded the rapper’s rearrest.

A family member, expressing frustration, warned that they might “take matters into their own hands” if justice is not served. Investigators are reportedly examining whether the rapper acted in self-defense and if the firearm involved was legally registered.

Confirming the probe, Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba stated:

“Police in Westenburg, outside Polokwane, are investigating an attempted murder incident that occurred on 19 October 2025.”

He added that Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has assigned the specialized Murder and Robbery Unit to handle the investigation.

“The police have a person of interest, and once investigations are concluded, appropriate action will be taken. The inquiry has been intensified, and an arrest is imminent,” Ledwaba confirmed.

Authorities have urged the public to remain patient as the investigation continues, emphasizing the need to allow law enforcement to complete its work without interference.
