Gov. Umo Eno: None of My Political Aides Earns Less Than ₦1 Million Monthly

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has dismissed claims about low remuneration for his political aides, stressing that none of his Personal Assistants (PAs) earn less than ₦1 million monthly.

The governor made the clarification during a Town Square Meeting with the people of Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo. He expressed displeasure over comments suggesting that aides were underpaid, describing such remarks as misleading.

Governor Eno commended his Personal Assistant on Protocol, Blessed Essien, who used part of his salary to construct a borehole for his community. Impressed by the gesture, the governor elevated Essien to the role of Special Assistant on Public Works.

“I received a brochure about a PA who used part of his earnings to construct and reticulate a borehole in his village. That’s commendable. But others with similar opportunities are not engaging their communities meaningfully,” he said.

He emphasized that ₦1 million should not be trivialized as a “stipend,” insisting it is a substantial income that requires accountability.

Governor Eno also directed the Secretary to the State Government to compile and publish in a national newspaper the names of all political appointees, categorized by local government areas.

Encouraging constituents to hold their representatives accountable, he added: “Ask your PAs, SAs, SSAs, and Commissioners — what have they done for your communities?”

The governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to rewarding performance and impact, noting that Essien’s promotion was a direct recognition of his contribution.
