Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has appealed to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, to intercede with President Bola Tinubu on his behalf so that his name can be removed from the Federal Government’s wanted list.
Igboho, who has been wanted since July 2021 by the Department of State Services (DSS) over allegations of stockpiling arms, made the plea during a courtesy visit to the Ooni at his Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife on Saturday. He was accompanied by friends and associates.
During the visit, Igboho publicly apologised to the monarch for previous verbal attacks.
“I want you to forgive and forget whatever wrong I have done to you. You are my father, and I cannot do away with you. Your warm reception today shows me you have already forgiven me,” he said.
The activist further appealed to the monarch to help secure the unfreezing of his bank accounts.
“My accounts remain frozen, and I know you are the one who can help me. I want you to assist me so the embargo can be lifted,” he added.
On the state of insecurity in the South-West, Igboho reaffirmed his willingness to combat criminal gangs hiding in forests across the region.
“Send us into the forest, and we will flush out kidnappers. We have the capacity to protect our people,” he declared.
Ooni’s Response
In his remarks, Oba Ogunwusi praised Igboho’s courage and commitment to the Yoruba cause, while assuring him of support.
“Some of you abused me in the past, but I was never angry. I am the father of all. You are a brave man and our pride in Yorubaland. We will work to ensure your name is removed from the wanted list,” the monarch said.
The Ooni urged restraint and unity, stressing that conflict would not advance the Yoruba agenda.
“What you are fighting for is not for yourself alone but for Yorubaland. Let us put aside fighting because it does not bring progress. Patience and unity are what we need,” he added.
