Trump Reacts to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Engagement

 

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has shared his thoughts on pop star Taylor Swift’s engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce, after the couple announced their big news in a joint Instagram post on Tuesday, August 26.

The engagement quickly set the internet buzzing, and Trump was asked about it during a Cabinet meeting. A reporter prefaced the question by saying, “I’d love to ask you a serious question, but the biggest pop culture news of the year just broke while we were in this meeting.”

In response, Trump said:

“Well, I wish him a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and I think she’s a terrific person. So I wish them a lot of luck.”

His warm remarks surprised many, given his past criticism of Swift. In September 2024, Trump declared on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” after she endorsed then–Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race. Swift had also publicly supported Joe Biden during the 2020 election.

Earlier this year, Trump doubled down with another jab, writing in May: “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT’?”

Despite those remarks, his latest comments suggest a softer tone toward the newly engaged couple.
