INEC Urges Nigerians to Correct Details, Replace Lost PVCs

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on eligible voters to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to correct personal details and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Speaking at a press briefing in Bauchi on Friday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Umar Ibrahim, said the exercise is part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the CVR will cover:

Fresh registration for new voters,

Correction of personal details such as names, date of birth, gender, or address,

Replacement of lost, defaced, or damaged PVCs,

Transfer of voter registration within or across states, and

Collection of uncollected PVCs from the 2022 CVR across all LGAs.

Ibrahim explained that online pre-registration began on Monday, August 18, 2025, while physical registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, at designated centres across Bauchi State.

“Both the online and physical registration will run simultaneously until August 30, 2026,” he stated. “To be eligible, one must be a Nigerian citizen, at least 18 years old, not previously registered, and physically present for biometric capture.”

The REC added that the online portal (cvr.inecnigeria.org) remains open 24 hours, while physical registration will take place at INEC’s State Office in Bauchi and the 20 Local Government offices between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays, excluding public holidays.

He further disclosed that the Preliminary Register of Voters will be displayed quarterly for public scrutiny to allow claims, objections, and corrections, ensuring only eligible names remain on the final list.

Ibrahim cautioned against multiple registration, underage registration, proxy collection of PVCs, and obstruction of INEC officials, stressing that such offences attract strict penalties under the Electoral Act 2022.

“I call on all eligible Nigerians in Bauchi State to take full advantage of this opportunity. Register, update your records where necessary, and collect your PVCs. The Commission remains committed to a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive voter registration process,” he said.
