Pastor Dolapo Adelakun has urged women to anchor their peace in God and self-love rather than trying to “own” their husbands, children, or material possessions.
In a Facebook post, Adelakun revealed that she received what she described as a “life lecture” from the Holy Spirit, teaching her to only hold firmly to two things: faith in God and love for oneself.
“Never OWN anything except these two assets – your faith in God and your love for yourself. Do not own your children, do not own your husband, do not own your properties. Do not own anything that can be taken away from you. This is the secret of peace,” she wrote.
The pastor said the message was reinforced during a visit to a psychiatric hospital, where she observed that most of the women admitted were battling mental breakdowns linked to marital and family crises
“The ward was overcrowded with beautiful women of different ages. All of them were there because of marital and family issues – a fiancé who jilted her, a lost child, a husband taking a second wife, a daughter calling her mother a witch, a husband dying prematurely, or a father leaving them out of his will,” Adelakun recounted.
By contrast, she noted, the male ward had only four patients: three young men dealing with drug-related issues and one older man who had lost his job.
Adelakun stressed the need for women to protect their mental health by not tying their identity or peace to relationships or circumstances beyond their control.
“Women, please stop holding on to anything apart from your faith in God and your love for yourself. When every other thing fails, keep these two. When you lose your mind, you have lost everything,” she warned.
She concluded by encouraging women to “hold on only to internal assets—faith and self-love,” insisting that this was the surest safeguard against life’s storms.
