The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, August 25, 2025, as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued Saturday by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Junaidu.
According to Junaidu, the decision followed reports from the National Moon Sighting Committee and its affiliates across the country, which confirmed that the new crescent was not sighted on Saturday, August 23, 2025 (29th Safar 1447AH).
He explained that Sunday, August 24, would therefore complete 30 days of Safar, making Monday, August 25, the beginning of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.
“His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of NSCIA, has accepted the report and accordingly declared Monday, 25th August 2025, as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH,” the statement read.
