Elon Musk Unveils “Grokipedia” to Challenge ‘Left-Leaning’ Wikipedia

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has launched Grokipedia, an AI-powered encyclopedia designed to compete with Wikipedia — a platform Musk has repeatedly accused of ideological bias.

Released on Monday as version 0.1, Grokipedia reportedly went live with over 2.8 million articles, though still far fewer than Wikipedia’s seven million English entries. Musk has pledged that the upcoming version 1.0 will be “10 times better” than the current site, claiming the platform is already “better than Wikipedia.”

Announcing the launch on X, Musk outlined the project’s mission:

“The goal of Grok and Grokipedia.com is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. We will never be perfect, but we will always strive toward that goal.”

The release, originally planned for late September, was postponed to allow developers to “purge out the propaganda,” according to Musk.

A long-time critic of Wikipedia, Musk has accused the site of being “controlled by far-left activists” and said its editorial practices are “extremely left-biased,” arguing that it cannot serve as a reliable reference for X’s Community Notes feature.

Grokipedia’s content is largely generated by artificial intelligence through xAI’s chatbot, Grok.

An entry on the new platform about Musk mirrors his criticism of traditional media, describing him as a figure who has “influenced debates on technological progress, demographic decline, and institutional bias — often via X” while facing “criticism from legacy media outlets that display systemic left-leaning tendencies.”

By contrast, Wikipedia, launched in 2001, remains a volunteer-driven, donation-funded encyclopedia that maintains a neutral point of view policy in its editorial guidelines.
