‘I’m under intense pressure to join APC’ – Plateau Governor Mutfwang

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has revealed that he is facing significant pressure from political figures to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made the disclosure over the weekend during an event at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Jos. He emphasized his commitment to remaining in the PDP, stating that only God and the electorate who voted him into office have the authority to determine his political path.

“It is true that they have been putting pressure on me. But I told them that only two people can authorize me to change my party — the God of heaven and you, the people,” he said.

This statement comes weeks after APC leaders in Plateau moved to block Mutfwang from joining their party. At a recent stakeholders’ meeting in Jos, party members unanimously passed a motion aimed at preventing his defection.

The motion was reportedly proposed by Festus Fuanter, former Deputy National Secretary of the APC, who stated, “We don’t want anybody coming to our party. You do your thing, and we’ll do ours.”

Fuanter added that the APC was confident in its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections and did not require additional reinforcement.

Reacting to this, Mutfwang described those opposing his potential defection as acting out of fear.
