The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will officially resume operations on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, following several weeks of suspension for essential maintenance and safety inspections.
In a statement released on Sunday, October 26, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, explained that the suspension was necessary to enable the corporation to carry out critical repairs, system checks, and maintenance on both the tracks and rolling stock, aimed at ensuring passenger safety, reliability, and comfort.
“The temporary suspension allowed us to perform vital maintenance and system checks on the track and rolling stock to enhance the comfort, reliability, and safety of our passengers,” the statement read.
The NRC further announced that online ticket booking will reopen by 12 noon on Monday, October 27, 2025, ahead of the service resumption. Passengers can make reservations via the official portal https://nrc-fane.ng or at designated train stations.
Upon resumption, the train service will operate with seven coaches—six standard-class and one business-class coach. A new timetable featuring temporary speed restrictions (TSR) for safety monitoring will also be released on Monday.
“The corporation sincerely apologises to passengers and stakeholders for the inconveniences experienced during the suspension period and appreciates their patience and understanding,” Unyimadu added.
NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed the corporation’s dedication to providing safe, efficient, and reliable rail transport along the Warri–Itakpe corridor, assuring passengers that the recent upgrades will significantly improve travel experience.
The Warri–Itakpe rail line, one of Nigeria’s major intercity routes, connects Delta, Edo, and Kogi States, serving as a key transport link between the South-South and North-Central regions for both passengers and freight.
