The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a woman, identified as Ada Clement, for allegedly running a baby factory in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement released on Sunday, October 26, 2025, the command’s spokesperson, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that five pregnant underage girls were rescued from the illegal facility.
According to Ayanlade, investigations revealed that the suspect sold newborns for ₦400,000 and above for female babies, and ₦600,000 and above for male babies.
“The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered a suspected baby factory and human trafficking syndicate operating in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state,” the statement read.
“The case, which was transferred from Ore Division to the Command’s Gender-Based Violence Unit, is currently under active investigation.”
The incident came to light on October 21, 2025, when 17-year-old Vivian Peter, from Ikot Ekpan, Akwa Ibom State, reported to the Ore Police Division that she had been trafficked under the pretense of a job offer.
Upon arrival in Ore, she was taken to a supposed clinic that turned out to be a baby factory, where several other pregnant girls were allegedly being held. Vivian said the operator, Ada Clement, later instructed that she be taken for a medical scan but she managed to escape and report to the police.
Following her report, operatives from Ore Division and the Gender Unit raided the facility, rescuing five pregnant girls and a baby boy. One of the victims had already given birth and is currently receiving postnatal care at the General Hospital in Ore. The remaining victims are in police protective custody.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the suspect and her accomplices confessed to operating the facility as a baby-selling syndicate, where young pregnant girls were kept until delivery, and their babies were sold to individuals seeking children.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a full-scale investigation to ensure all members of the trafficking network are apprehended and prosecuted.
Ayanlade added that detectives are actively tracking other members of the syndicate who are currently on the run.
