A tragic incident has claimed the life of a Lagos State Government director, Mrs. Serifat Olubukola Talabi, just four days before her scheduled retirement from civil service and her 60th birthday celebration.
According to reports, Mrs. Talabi was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Saturday while attempting to cross the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near the Redemption Camp in Ogun State.
A source within the state civil service, who requested anonymity due to lack of authorization to speak publicly, confirmed that Mrs. Talabi served as the Director of Procurement at the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).
“She was hit by a vehicle while crossing the expressway around the Redemption Camp. Efforts were made to rush her to the hospital, but she was later confirmed dead,” the source revealed.
Another insider disclosed that Mrs. Talabi had been set to retire on Monday, October 13, but her retirement party was postponed to Wednesday, October 22, to accommodate the agency’s General Manager’s schedule.
“She had already printed and distributed invitation cards to friends, colleagues, and family members for the event, which was to double as her birthday celebration,” the source added.
An invitation card seen online indicated that the celebration was to take place at the NERDC Conference Centre, NERDC Road, Ikeja, near the Fela Shrine.
A wake-keeping service has been scheduled for October 23, 2025, while the burial will follow on October 24, 2025, in Ibafo, Ogun State.
